1,210 Homes Provided to Families in Need!

Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, Inc. has built 1,210 homes in Lee and Hendry counties.  Together with donors, homeowners, volunteers and staff, Habitat transforms lives and communities.

Habitat offers a self-help housing solution that helps families become homeowners.  No-interest, no-profit mortgages offers families hope, confidence, and respect. Habitat homeowners report increased pride and sense of responsibility.  Children are more likely to do well in school living in a stable home.

Homes are not given away.  Families have to be willing to earn their homes by volunteering 250 hours of “sweat equity.”  Work that is contributed helps defray closing costs, and it also helps families to keep mortgage payments at 30% or less of their income.  When families make this kind of investment in their homes, they realize even more the value of homeownership.  Habitat also provides homeownership classes to prepare families for the responsibility of owning a home.
