Wells Fargo Women Build

From the moment the first invitation went out to the women of Southwest Florida, support for the Wells Fargo Women Build 2012 has been more than amazing. As we kick off the activity on the first of 2 houses we will rehab over the next 2 weeks we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who is making these homes possible.

Our local efforts are part of an international movement in which more than 1,900 homes have been built or rehabbed by women crews in the United States, dozens more in countries around the world. The program began with a group of women in Charlotte, North Carolina and gained momentum with the support of women leaders from the grassroots level up to the White House. You can read about the rich history of Women Build here.

National Women Build Week logo

In 2003 Lowe’s stepped up as the underwriter for the national program and in 2008 launched National Women Build Week – a concentrated effort in the days leading up to Mother’s Day to help Habitat for Humanity to recruit and educate, inspiring women to build – and advocate for – simple, decent and affordable homes in their communities.

Wells Fargo logoOur local affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, Inc. is grateful to Wells Fargo for stepping up to become the title sponsor for this year’s Women Build. With an ambitious goal of raising the funds to rehab homes for 2 deserving families, Wells Fargo’s support is a critical part of our successful efforts.

A combination of generous companies and individuals and phenomenal ladies who lobbied their friends, colleagues, family (and anybody else who would listen!) are represented in the sponsor logos and listings below. Some of them may be sporting pink hard hats and pink leather tool belts on the jobs sites, some of them may be taking long sips of water from cool pink cups, and many of them will be fashionably attired in branded shirts. But to a person, each of them is in this for the results, not the recognition! They have their own, unique motivations, but they are galvanized into this action because they want to improve the lives of Southwest Florida families by creating a safe, decent, affordable home for them. We thank them and salute them!

And there’s still time to donate! The Zonta Clubs are diligently working toward their $50,000 goal to fund a home in Bonita Springs. We have the home, we have the Homeowner Candidate – we just need a few more dollars toward that effort. We are extending that campaign deadline and scheduling that rehab for July.
