Habitat for Humanity of Lee County has built 60 units of senior housing to help meet the critical need of affordable housing for older people in our community. While it’s true that Habitat promotes homeownership, we couldn’t ignore the staggering needs of a growing senior population. . . a population that also needs affordable housing. As housing costs have skyrocketed in Lee County in recent years, many seniors have been priced right out of the market. Some have had no choice but to live in overcrowded, unsafe, or unsanitary conditions. This is no way to live. That’s why Habitat for Humanity of Lee County made the decision to build the first-of-its-kind Habitat Senior Housing Complex, which is located in North Fort Myers. It will provide 60 senior families with a safe, decent, affordable place to rent.
