On Tuesday, January 14th, Pelican Landing Habitat for Humanity Committee members and Neighborhood Captains gathered at the Pelican’s Nest Golf Club to kick off their 2020 fundraising campaign. Joining the community leaders were Habitat for Humanity staff members, Becky Lucas (CEO), Vince Modarelli (VP of Community Outreach), Elisha Baird (Community Program Director), Rachel West (Community Event Manager), and Ana Villacis (Director of Development).
A longtime partner with Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, Pelican Landing residents, have sponsored and participated in the construction of twenty-one affordable homes in Bonita Springs. The community’s dedication to affordable homeownership has empowered hardworking, local families to break the cycle of poverty by providing a lasting hand-up the economic ladder.
“Last year was a landmark year in Pelican Landing’s support for the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties,” said Vince Modarelli. “For the very first time, the neighbors’ giving exceeded the total cost to build the home they sponsored, and the residents volunteered a stunning 1,857 hours.”
For 2020, the partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Pelican Landing will continue to grow. At the kickoff event, the committee announced its intention to fully fund and build two affordable Habitat homes in Bonita Springs. As the demand for affordable homeownership rises in Bonita Springs and throughout Southwest Florida, having community partners, like Pelican Landing step-up and challenge themselves to do more, is critical to meeting the needs of our community.
