Last Christmas,
Sameisha’s children woke up in their new Habitat home. They excitedly exchanged presents while gathered around their tree, shared a special home-cooked meal, and celebrated the holiday without worry – the way it should be.
But thirteen years ago, Sameisha never imagined she might one day own a home of her own. At just 18 years old, she and her infant daughter were homeless and fighting to survive. Over the years, her family grew but stability remained a stranger in her life. She struggled to maintain a decent job or lasting relationships, and – like so many others – was paying more than she could ever afford in rent. Worse of all, Sameisha and her three children lived every day in fear for their safety. Following a terrifying series of break-ins, she knew that something had to change.
After obtaining a stable job, reconnecting with her faith, and reestablishing relationships with her family, Sameisha felt ready to take the next step. She turned to Habitat and partnered with us through our Affordable Homeownership Program. In the last year, Sameisha’s family has experienced the simple joys of everyday living, knowing they are secure in their home and in their future.
By remembering Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties in your giving this holiday season, you can help us meet one of the most critical needs our county has ever faced: the need for safe, decent, affordable housing. Your gift will help 60 more families – like Sameisha’s – achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance that having a home provides.
On behalf of our Habitat community of empowered homeowners, we thank you.
