For Habitat, Cape Coral is the number one desired location for families in need of affordable housing. Now, because of a $2.5 million dollar grant, Habitat can move forward with a development that will serve those families, one year earlier than planned.

The money came from the American Rescue Plan Act and was approved by the Lee County Commissioners on June 21. The funds will be used for infrastructure development for Habitat’s McNeill neighborhood. Situated near Pondella and Pine Island Roads in Lee County, McNeill will serve 36 families who desire Cape Coral access.
“We are grateful for the commissioners continued support of Habitat’s mission, especially during the housing crisis,” said Habitat CEO Becky Lucas. “The commissioners are taking transformational steps to make affordable housing accessible in Lee County.”
To celebrate this neighborhood’s impact, Habitat is honoring its longest-serving colleagues who have each dedicated more than 20 years toward Habitat’s mission of building homes, communities, and hope. The 36 single-family homes will be built along Tanya Circle, named after Habitat’s Chief Operating Officer, Tanya Soholt. Duck’s pond is named after Habitat’s Construction District Supervisor Donald (Duck) Holscher. Patino Park is named after Senior Construction District Supervisor, Eduardo Patino.
