Home for the Holidays: Jessica’s Story

By January 29, 2025No Comments

Habitat Homeowner Jessica happily accepts an American flag from Housing Counselor Raisa during her home dedication ceremony.

Jessica, a single mother of three, was living in her parents’ three-bed, one-bath house before partnering with Habitat for Humanity. However, with six people under one roof, privacy and comfort was hard to come by for Jessica and her children.

Now, thanks to her partnership with Habitat, Jessica has given her kids the ultimate Christmas gift: a safe, stable place to call home. She made the moment even more magical by keeping their new house a secret until move-in day.

“It was a wonderful feeling,” Jessica shared. “It was a surprise for my children. They didn’t know anything about the house.”

The day they moved in was unforgettable. Jessica described the overwhelming joy of seeing her kids explore their new home. “They have their own beds and their own rooms,” she said. “I was born and raised in a Habitat home. So, now that I have my own Habitat home, it’s a blessing for me and my family.”

Growing up in a Habitat home herself, the journey to homeownership through our organization added an extra layer of meaning. She completed 300 hours of sweat equity, attended more than 20 hours of homeownership education classes, and paid $2,000 toward closing costs.

“I want to thank Habitat, my counselors, and everyone who helped me,” she said. “I just want to thank them, and God bless them.”

Moments like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of donors, volunteers and supporters.

This home was built through the generosity of Victory Layne Chevrolet in Fort Myers. Because of you, families like Jessica’s are celebrating the holidays in a safe and secure home. You can help more families like Jessica’s by donating today.
