Steve happily stands beside his 22-year-old F150 Ford truck.
Back in 2002, Cape Coral resident Steve obtained his residential contractor’s license, a milestone marked by the purchase of a 2001 F150 Ford truck.
This vehicle soon became his trusted companion in personal and professional projects, traveling more than 250,000 miles over 22 years.
The truck was used to help build single-family homes in Southwest Florida, and it served him well in his sales business, as he regularly traveled from Cape Coral to West Palm Beach.
“It was just an all-around great vehicle,” Steve said. “I loved the truck more than a regular car.”
The truck’s reliability and low maintenance costs made it difficult for Steve to part with it, but after years of faithful service, he began considering its future. His research led him to Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program, which allows individuals to donate their used vehicles to support Habitat’s work.
“What stood out was some of the things that [Habitat] stood for and endorsed,” Steve said. “The possibility of where the money was going was definitely a determining factor.”
The vehicles donated are either sold at auction or to licensed direct buyers that can make repairs as needed or salvage parts. Proceeds from the sale of the vehicle are donated to Habitat, with the majority invested in the community where the car is donated.
The donation process went on without a hitch, and Steve felt terrific knowing his beloved truck would continue to support builds and renovations for families in our community. “I’d do it again,” he said.
Having been part of the Cape Coral community for nearly 30 years, Steve is glad that his donation will help others build their dreams, just as his truck helped him build so many homes.
