The mission of Women Build is to engage women in the effort to provide safe and decent homes for families in need of affordable housing. By recruiting, educating, and inspiring women, we can transform lives in our communities.

Every donation builds a foundation for a stronger future

Since 2011, Women Build in Lee and Hendry Counties has partnered with 29 female-headed families to build strength and stability for their children through local fundraising and volunteer efforts. Currently, 75% of Habitat’s future homeowners are female-led households, exemplifying the need for affordable housing among women.

Together, we will raise $450,000 to build a new home in partnership with Melissa and her family, providing them with a stable foundation for generations to come. Funding Women Build supports Habitat’s home-building efforts and the life-changing effects of homeownership for female-led households.

Meet Melissa

Future Women Build 2024 homeowner

Working a full-time job, raising two boys as a single mom and taking care of her fully disabled mother is a constant balancing act for Melissa.

Unaffordable rent leaves little wiggle room for unexpected things. Currently, she’s spending 37% of her gross income on housing expenses, meaning she’s cost-burdened.

“To own and know that you’re going to have the stability of being able to afford it, is huge,” Melissa said.

Melissa is partnering with Habitat for the 2024 Women Build campaign to build a home with an affordable mortgage that will give her the self-reliance she needs.
